TITICACA LAKE

This
lake, called the "Sacred Lake of the Incas," was
the place where the first Inca was born. Surrounded by the
imposing snowcapped mountains of the eastern range, it is
the highest navigable lake in the world and the largest
in South America. Its area is shared by Bolivia and Peru.
Its two large islands, the Islands of the Sun and the Moon,
are visited by many tourists.

COPACABANA

This city is located on
the shores of beautiful Lake Titicaca. Cruises leave the
city daily and it is possible to stay overnight in a hotel
there. The city is built over one of the largest sacred
areas of the Tiwanacota and Inca eras. Since the sixteenth
century, Copacabana has been a site for pilgrimages. An
important sanctuary built there in the seventeenth century
has groin vaults and a cloister from the Renaissance period,
and its principal altar is baroque.
