TAPIR CABINS
Cuyabeno Fauna Reserve

This compound is in the province of
Sucumbios, 5 hours from the city of Lago Agrio, in the heart of
the Cuyabeno Fauna Reserve, which is one of the most biodiverse
areas of the country and the world. Within the 600 hectares of the
reserve, we will find a beautiful system of lagoons and flooded
forest where more than 550 species of birds, over 350 species of
fish, a large variety of sweet water dolphins, and the prehistoric
hoatzin and tapir live, the tapir being one of the largest mammals
present in the Amazonian region and thus the reason for the name
of the reserve.
The richness of the Cuyabeno River basin is not
limited to nature, but also to cultural aspects. Several Indian
communities have their homes within the reserve. Two of these communities
work directly with this project in ecotourist activities: the Siona
and the Cofan communities.
The compound has one bungalow with 4 double rooms
and a private bath. There is another bungalow with 4 double rooms
and two shared bathrooms. An important part of the compound is the
15-meter high tower that has 4 double suites. From this tower there
is a spectacular view of the Cuyabeno River and the surrounding
natural world. All the rooms are well furnished, the bathrooms have
hot water, and biodegradable soap and shampoo are provided. A very
nice restaurant serves excellent national and international food.
The social area has a bar where soft drinks and cocktails are served.
There is also a souvenir shop.
The guides who accompany the tourists are the best
trained and experienced of the multilingual (Spanish, English, German
and French) naturalist guides of the Cuyabeno Fauna Reserve.
All our activities focus on environmental education:
bird-watching, day and nocturnal excursions, navigation in oar-manned
canoes during the day and at night, visits to Indian communities
in the area, visits to the shaman (medicine man) who explains the
use of medicinal plants.
The programs have been planned for 4, 5 and 7 days.
Departures are every day of the week with a minimum of 3 passengers.
There are also departures planned for individual passengers at different
times during the year.
