Depart
from the hotel and go to the Guapulo lookout from where you can
see one of Quito's most beautiful colonial churches built in honor
of the Virgin of Guadalupe. From here there is also a wonderful
view of the nearby valleys and you can see the route the conquerors
took when they discovered the Amazon River. After passing through
two important avenues in the city, we enter the colonial area of
Quito. This old "downtown" is the historical center where
there are beautiful works of architecture. Our last visit is to
Panecillo, a hill that is a natural lookout having an impressive
panoramic view of Quito and the surrounding valleys. Return to the
hotel.

historic downtown section of the city. At night it is beautifully
lit and its plazas, streets, convents, churches and little

Highway to the Equator Monument that marks the equinoctial
line established by the French Geodesic Mission in the 18th
century. Here you will be able to jump from the southern to
the northern hemisphere in an instant. Inside, there is an
interesting ethnographic museum and you can visit a lot of
souvenir shops. Return to the hotel. |

Day 1: Departure from the
hotel and head to the south Pan American Highway to pass through
the Avenue of the Volcanoes. First we go to Ambato and then continue
on east to the town of the Salasacas, the Indians who specialize
in making textiles and woven tapestries on their ancient looms.
In the afternoon, we will be in Baños and there you can try
products made of sugar cane: taffy, sugar paste, brown sugar bars
and sugar cane juice. Then we will continue on to Riobamba. Lodging.
Day 2: Leave early to take the Riobamba-Alausi
train. (This part of the trip may vary because train schedules are
frequently interrupted due to the poor conditions of the rails.)
In the afternoon, we will continue the trip by car to visit the
archeological ruins of Inga Pirca. Lodging at night in Cuenca.
Day 3: After breakfast, the
tour is in the colonial part of the city. We will visit some of
the most beautiful churches and then reminisce, thinking of romantic
times as we walk through the narrow streets that still preserve
the mysterious touch of the olden days. Then we will continue this
splendid excursion by stopping at the Turi lookout to admire the
beauty of the city. Departure in the afternoon for the flight back
to Quito.

desire to hike very far, they may opt for visiting the towns of
Chordeleg and Gualaceo to shop for different crafts made here, especially
very conveniently priced jewelry and ceramic.
